Welcome to the SCOR WG #143

"Dissolved N2O and CH4 measurements:
Working towards a global network of ocean time series measurements of N2O and CH4"

WG #143 was approved by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) in November 2013. The funding period is from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2017.

WG #143 is co-chaired by Sam T. Wilson (C-MORE/U Hawaii) and Hermann W. Bange (GEOMAR, Kiel)

Overview

The SCOR WG #143 aims to improve and consolidate measurements of the greenhouse gases nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) dissolved in seawater.  This work will be achieved over a 4 year time period by conducting the following activity:

Firstly, an intercalibration exercise will be conducted amongst WG members targeting discrete N2O and CH4 measurements.  Recommendations and protocols for calibration, quantification, and data reporting will be published following this exercise.  This part of the project will also provide a review of existing and near-future methods for quantifying N2O and CH4 in seawater including spectroscopy measurements.

The second part of the project will be to conduct an overall assessment on the status of dissolved N2O and CH4 measurements in the global oceans.  Key regions and recommendations on the necessary temporal and spatial scale for sampling will be identified.

If you want your e-mail address to be added to the WG #143 mailing list please contact Sam Wilson and Hermann Bange.
